Sorceress build routes
Start with Fire Bolt, Ice Bolt or Charged Bolt when offered. Frozen Orb, Blizzard and Chain Lightning are later chest evolutions, not fresh level-1 opening skills.

Opening and progression
- Fire: max Fire Bolt and hold Warmth for Fire Ball from character level 12. Keep Fire Ball at its maximum rank of 1, then hold Enchant and reach 24 for a second chest to create Meteor.
- Cold Orb: max Ice Bolt and hold Cold Mastery, which unlocks at 30, for Frozen Orb. Keep an effective early spell until that gate; Frozen Orb cannot be chosen as a normal opening card.
- Cold Blizzard: learn Ice Blast from 6, max it and hold Faster Cast Rate for Glacial Spike from 18. Replenish Life enables Blizzard from 24 in another chest. This is separate from Ice Bolt → Frozen Orb.
- Lightning: max Charged Bolt and hold Energy Shield for Chain Lightning. The target skill’s table says 18, but Energy Shield unlocks at 24, so this route cannot evolve before 24. Lightning itself is a separate ordinary level-12 skill.
Evolution prerequisite table
Each row also requires the listed base to be learned to its maximum and a chest after all requirements are met. A target’s unlock level alone does not guarantee that its base can already be maxed.
| Skill to max | Catalyst to hold | Evolution | Earliest character level |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fire Bolt 8 (1) | Warmth (1) | Fire Ball | 12 |
| Fire Ball 1 | Enchant (18) | Meteor | 24 |
| Ice Bolt 8 (1) | Cold Mastery (30) | Frozen Orb | 30 |
| Ice Blast 8 (6) | Faster Cast Rate (1) | Glacial Spike | 18 |
| Glacial Spike 1 | Replenish Life (1) | Blizzard | 24 |
| Charged Bolt 8 (1) | Energy Shield (24) | Chain Lightning | 24 (target unlock 18; catalyst delays it) |
Alternatives and Hell / Terror boundaries
If a catalyst is missing, keep the base spell and reserve its passive slot. Hydra is an independent ordinary skill from level 30, with six active Hydras maximum; it is not a Fire Ball evolution.
Cold-immune monsters cannot be frozen. On Hell/Terror, plan another damage source or sufficient resistance reduction rather than assuming cold control applies to every enemy. The three Masteries lower enemy resistance in this game; Fire and Lightning Mastery are not simply Diablo II damage bonuses.
Sorceress, Necromancer, Druid and Assassin can extend cooldown reduction to 60% through half-effect gains past the ordinary cap, or 67% with all Charsi Faster Cast Rate ranks. Amazon, Paladin and Barbarian cap at 50%, or 58% with Charsi. These are cooldown-reduction limits, not the FCR stat value.
Build 20261028.2 gives Frozen Orb a 1-second base cooldown before Faster Cast Rate. Energy Shield spends at most 400 mana per hit, reduced by learned Telekinesis. Static Field’s percentage-life damage does not receive the 1.90× Terror multiplier.
The official Fire Bolt table publishes 1 bolt at 21 damage with 0.85-second recharge at rank 1, and 4 bolts at 49 damage each with 0.47-second recharge at rank 8, before Faster Cast Rate. These are base values, not a measured final DPS promise.
Slot and survival budget
Normal has 6 skill slots and 6 passive slots; Nightmare has 8 of each and Hell 10 of each. Continuing past Baal adds 2 of each. An evolution replaces its base in the same slot. Do not plan all alternatives below as simultaneous picks.
Nightmare applies a -40 resistance penalty and Hell -100. Review the character sheet before advancing. No fixed gear list, clear time, Terror floor or final DPS is established by these routes.
How to use these routes
These are editorial routes assembled from the official skill rules, not tested endgame loadouts. The mechanics below have one publisher: the official D2 Survivors wiki. Its class, skill-systems and numbers pages are not independent sources.
Max an ordinary base skill at 8 learned ranks, hold its catalyst and meet both level requirements, then open a chest. An evolution arrives at its maximum of 1 rank; its next step needs another catalyst and another chest, not eight more ranks. Item +skills do not substitute for learned ranks. Each chest evolves one ready skill.
The tables give the earliest rule-based character level, including the base rank cap and catalyst unlock where relevant; card availability can delay it. A skill cannot exceed character level minus its unlock level plus one. Keep a passive slot for your catalyst and avoid banishing it. These opening instructions apply when choosing a fresh level-1 build; check your existing banked hero before changing a later-difficulty plan.
Questions and answers
Are Warmth and Enchant interchangeable catalysts?
No. Warmth is for Fire Bolt → Fire Ball from level 12. Enchant is for Fire Ball → Meteor from level 24. Fire Ball is an evolution already maxed at rank 1.
Are these tested endgame builds?
No. These are actionable progression routes derived from one official publisher’s mechanics. They specify prerequisites and alternatives, without a verified final gear set, clear time or Terror floor.
