Which Diablo II files D2 Survivors needs

Updated 2026-10-29

I read the official getting-started page and the legal page on 29 October 2026, then checked a second write-up on d2survivors.com that lists the same five required MPQs. The two pages agree on the file names. They do not agree on a closing date for hosted files: the legal page only says “going away very soon,” and nobody has published a day.

Three ways to feed the game

Pick the folder that actually contains the data. A shortcut or the game EXE is not enough. The getting-started page is the primary source; the second site repeats the classic list.

File routes checked against the official wiki on 2026-10-29. Hosted files have no published end date.

Classic MPQs

Required names, from the getting-started page. Optional music and speech files are listed separately there. This page does not invent file sizes; the wiki does not publish them.

  • Required: d2data.mpq, d2char.mpq, d2sfx.mpq, d2exp.mpq, patch_d2.mpq.
  • Optional: d2music.mpq, d2xmusic.mpq, d2speech.mpq, d2xtalk.mpq.
  • Browser storage is about 1.1 GB after the read. The desktop app wants about 1.5 GB of disk.

When Resurrected files “don’t match”

The changelog for builds around 19 October 2026 tells you to repair the Resurrected install in Battle.net or Steam when the files do not match each other. An unfinished download is called out on its own. A Steam library can be the folder you select.

“Not a DCC file” is described on the second-hand setup page as a wrong folder or a damaged file. I am marking that sentence as one site’s wording, not an official error catalog. The official changelog on 26 October 2026 says a single unreadable image or sound is skipped instead of failing the whole extract.

Questions and answers

Can I play with no Diablo II install at all?

Only while the official hosted files are still offered. The legal page says that copy is going away very soon. After that, you need your own files.

Does a Resurrected install include the remastered graphics?

The wiki says Resurrected can supply sound and music. It does not say the remastered look is used. A creator reply, quoted second-hand on d2survivors.com, says that look is not available. That reply is a single extra source.

Are the files uploaded to a server?

The FAQ says they are read on your machine and are not uploaded.

Sources checked 2026-10-29

Source scope: the official site, FAQ, wiki and changelog share one publisher. Build IDs, installer sizes and detailed mechanics are single-source official claims unless a separate independent reference is identified. Several official links do not count as independent confirmation.
